Custom-designed in 2001, Casa Encantada has achieved an exceptionally successful marriage of classic Spanish colonial architecture with top of the line modern amenities. Clean lines and balanced proportions dramatically highlight the stunning architecture of this 12,000 square foot villa. The property is a showcase for extraordinary workmanship and the finest local materials - cantera stone floors, wrought-iron chandeliers and decorative accents, copper sinks, travertine and granite counter tops, antique wood doors, and hand-crafted tile bathrooms. Tastefully complemented by internationally-collected art and furniture, the villa exudes an atmosphere of refined elegance on a grand scale. Outdoor spaces are equally striking, from the buttressed and walled garden, to the cobbled courtyard, lantern-lit colonnade, spacious cabana, glass-roofed spa, and 3,000 square foot roof terrace.

Entering through the impressive front doors from the busy street, one is immediately awed by the exquisite calm and beauty of the large inner courtyard, and the magnificent vista past lantern-lit columns to a second courtyard and garden beyond. Oversized ferns, exotic antiques, and large clay urns resplendent with flowers grace the entrance.

The serene back garden is enclosed by a 25 foot buttressed stone wall, with ornamental doors and decorative wrought iron features. Handsome sconces provide romantic lighting at night, and make evening outdoor entertaining particularly theatrical. Flowering fruit trees and enormous planters overflowing with bougainvillea produce delightful aromas and dramatic bursts of color.

Off the garden is the large covered cabana, or outdoor living room. An impressive stone fireplace, comfortable all-weather sofas and chairs, and wonderful views of the garden make this an ideal shaded location for relaxation and casual entertaining on hot, sunny afternoons.

Connecting to the outdoor cabana is the spa. With retractable glass roof, teak lounge chairs, steam shower, and separate bathroom with shower, this complex offers a truly hedonistic experience.

A romantic winding staircase leads to the expansive roof terrace. Stunning views of San Miguel abound in every direction, including a spectacular, direct line of sight to La Parroquia, the Parish Church. From this extraordinary vantage, watch San Miguel's famous sunsets and fireworks, read, or just relax on one of the most beautiful rooftop settings in town.

From the walled and columned front courtyard, one enters the main house through the stylishly-furnished living room. Double-height ceilings, exposed beams, and a majestic carved stone fireplace give this room an imposing grandeur, well-suited to gracious entertaining. Comfortable sofas and ample seating make it the perfect location for cocktails, evening conversations by the hearth, or group card and board games. Views of the cobbled courtyard and external gardens add to the charm and elegance of this room.

From the living room, pass the colorful, exquisitely-tiled powder room to the dining room. Light from the large skylight overhead pours into the double-height room, reflecting off two sets of mirrored French doors which enclose the dining area. A substantial wrought iron chandelier provides a focal point above the antique wooden dining table, which comfortably seats eight. In the corner is a stunning stone fireplace, providing gas heat for the cooler winter nights. Attractive ceramics, characteristic of Guanajuato State, grace the enormous buffet. Colorful Mexican fabrics and a bright carpet bring additional warmth to the room.

Delegate meal preparation to the talented cook at Casa Encantada during your stay, or, if you prefer, take advantage of the fully-equipped, American-style, eat-in country kitchen to create your own Mexican culinary delights. With expansive granite counters, oversized copper sinks, and a six-top gas stove, dishwasher, large oven, and full-size refrigerator, Casa Encantada's kitchen can accommodate even the most demanding chefs. Large windows, colorful walls, and a gas fireplace make this room a bright, inviting space at any time of day.

Along the stone foyer, past the large laundry room, and through the double doors is the library. With its dark-wood paneling, built-in shelves, lovely gas fireplace, and Sony sound system, this room works well as an office or intimate conversation space. Double French doors lead from the library out to the garden.

Adjacent to the library is the ground floor master bedroom with king bed. Truly expansive, this impressive suite has vaulted boveda ceilings, a comfortable sitting area, handsome carved stone fireplace, his and her travertine bathrooms, and two walk-in, wood-paneled, dressing rooms. This room, like all the other bedrooms, has a Sony TV and cable service. French doors open from the bedroom to the walled garden and cantera stone terrace.

A palatial stone staircase leads to the second floor where there are two more large bedrooms. One has twin beds and a lovely tiled ensuite bathroom. The other is a full master suite with king bed, his and her bathrooms, a large stone fireplace and sitting area, and vast walk-in closets. Both second floor bedrooms have French doors opening to marvelous views over the luxuriant enclosed gardens and lawn.

Off the garden is another large ground floor master bedroom with king bed. Separated slightly from the main house, this garden suite, with its beautifully tiled bathroom, large walk-in closet, stone fireplace, and small sitting area, is particularly well-suited to guests seeking peace and privacy.

Above the garage is a spacious, self-contained apartment with two single beds, a large kitchenette (with stove, refrigerator, sink, and microwave, cleverly separated from the bedroom by attractive sliding doors), and a full ensuite. Entered separately from the main house, the casita-style suite is the ideal retreat for guests who prefer an additional degree of self-sufficiency and independence.
